Key Changes in BRCGS food safety issue (9)

The BRCGS Packaging Materials Global Standard helps a site or operation to demonstrate they are providing products that are quality assured, legally compliant and authentic.

It is one of the first to be recognized by Global Food safety Initiative (GFSI). At present its Issue 9 has been published on August 1, 2022. and new requirements was incorporated as per current market needs.



Key Changes between Issue 8 and Issue 9

  1. BRCGS food safety Issue 9 formally adds a third audit option to the protocol. As per it audit can be divided into two parts - Remote (online) and On site. After checking all the requirements.

  2. Food Safety Culture Food safety Culture is now part of the fundamental section in 1.1 Managment Commitment. Therefore, it is more focus on management and continuous improvement.

  3. Validation and verification Validation is mandatory before a change is implemented. A control points as well as the critical limits of a CCP are validated. Verification is no longer expected only once but at least annually and immediately after changes or incidents.

  4. Training and Competence Not only relevant staff temporary staff. contractors but all staff needs to trained before start of operations, this applies to all staff. It also states that training is one of the activities that will certainly return to the plan for improving food safety and quality culture.
